Does
acupuncture hurt?
Typically,
no. Many people experience little or no sensation. Others quickly
become accustomed to the needle penetrating the skin, which can
feel a little like a mosquito bite. For some people, one area of
the body may be especially sensitive. I work with each patient
to ensure he or she is comfortable with the process, and I’ll
offer other treatment options if appropriate.

How
many acupuncture sessions will I need?
After
an initial course of treatment -- six to eight sessions – we’ll
re-assess and determine a schedule that will further your progress.
Then we work together to move towards a wellness model to maintain
good health rather than work hard to restore it.

How
often are acupuncture sessions scheduled?
Initially,
a typical frequency is once per week. After a course of treatment,
six to eight sessions we review what has changed and then set up
a schedule that will work to maintain the symptom free status or
continue to work to that end. Many people find that after the initial
complaint is resolved we either shift focus to other concerns or
transition to a maintenance schedule every four to eight weeks.

Do

Never.
In accordance with laws governing the practice of acupuncture,
I treat patients with sterile, single-use needles, which are disposed
of at a licensed facility.

What
should I wear? Do I have to take my clothes off for an acupuncture
treatment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothes. In most cases, you won’t need to remove
any clothing; if you have to disrobe, you will be draped for modesty.
Will
I be given herbs as well as acupuncture treatments?
Some
conditions respond well to herbs, or to a combination of herbs
plus another treatment. Herbs are also used to secure the benefits
of your treatment and help keep you moving forward. Your program
will be tailored to your needs.

How
are herbs administered?
I generally
use powdered or granulated herbs so I can customize your prescription.
You administer them by dissolving them in water to make a tea.
If you prefer, I can supply your herbs in capsule form.
